— Drawing on lived experience —
Safety in the sky
an exploration of how trauma can
be metabolised into agency
It visualises the process of healing from dissociation, offering an alternative narrative of victimhood. Through long exposure pinhole photography and analogue darkroom techniques, Sarah Beatty’s work guides the viewer from darkness towards light. The images taking the form of portals between states of being, suggesting movement, rupture and repair.
Drawing on lived experience, the work reflects on what it requires to face suffering without being defined by it. Considering healing as an active, disorientating process, defined by shifts in perception, identity and consciousness.
